Max Lowe claims his goal in pre-season was to remain at Derby County and break into the first-team amid speculation of a return north of the border, the club’s official website report.

The Daily Record claims Celtic opened talks with Derby over a move for Lowe during the summer. The Hoops were on the lookout for a replacement for Kieran Tierney who signed for Arsenal.

But Lowe remained with the Rams, and it now looks like an excellent decision from club and player. Speaking to the official website, the youngster claims it was always his intention.

At first I wasn’t really keen on moving away from home for the first time, going up to Scotland was different for me. Getting a season under my belt was key for me at my age, I needed to get 30 games. I felt that it helped me coming into pre-season, I felt more ready to play for Derby County which is my first goal.

Lowe appeared set to break into the Derby first-team last season. However, he still looked raw after an impressive pre-season and ended up going out on loan to Aberdeen.

The Derby academy graduate became a first-team star with the Dons, helping them to a third-place finish.

Max Lowe’s loan spell at Aberdeen has worked wonders:

His impressive performances up in Scotland seemingly attracted the interests of Scottish champions Celtic. But Derby have been wise to keep hold of him, with his value increasing by the day.

Lowe has recently filled in at right-back for the injured Jayden Bogle. The natural left-back has shown his capabilities on the ball, while defensively he looks more mature.

Derby fans are looking forward to Bogle’s return, with the expectation of Lowe consolidating himself as the club’s number one left-back. He has big potential, and he will only get better with more experience.
