According to Voetbalnieuws, top clubs from Belgium are rivalling Derby County and West Bromwich Albion for the signature of free-scoring striker Kasper Junker.

The prolific Danish striker has been in red hot form this calendar year.

Norway’s domestic campaign resumed in June, and since then Junker has posted 27 goals and 11 assists including netting against AC Milan in the Europa League.

Derby’s initial interest in Junker was detailed in the summer by Norwegian editorial VG.

TEAMtalk later claimed the likes of West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace were keen.

Now, Belgian publication Voetbalnieuws claims both Derby and West Brom face competition from top Belgian sides such as Anderlecht and Standard Liege.

Junker, 26, is seemingly one of Europe’s most sought-after players heading into January considering his season with Bodo / Glimt is over until late spring.

West Brom manager Sam Allardyce will be keen to add extra fire-power to his side as the Baggies attempt to preserve their Premier League status come the end of the season.

Karlan Grant and Charlie Austin both featured in the 1-1 draw at Liverpool on Sunday. However, Allardyce may feel his side need another regular goal scorer up top.

Derby, meanwhile, are desperately short of attacking options.

The Rams are the lowest scorers in the Championship. Lone striker Colin Kazim-Richards is 34 and as well as he has been playing, he isn’t exactly a long-term option at Pride Park.

A new striker will surely top interim manager Wayne Rooney’s wish-list in January.

Junker certainly has the goal scoring record to fit the bill. Moreover, at 6ft 1inch, he is also physically a nuisance for defenders. Derby, however, face strong competition.
