According to The Sun, Brighton and Hove Albion are leading the chase for Derby County midfielder Jason Knight who is attracting interest ahead of the summer window.

Knight broke through to the Derby first-team last season.

The Republic of Ireland international became a regular this season, starting 41 Championship games and regularly topping the club’s running charts.

Knight is versatile and can operate in central midfield or out wide.

Derby are in a tough period as owner Mel Morris looks to sell the club and amid financial struggles, the Rams could struggle to retain Knight, Lee Buchanan and Louie Sibley.

The Sun claim Brighton are keen on Knight while Sibley could also leave.

The Seagulls preserved their Premier League status under Graham Potter, playing some terrific football at times and beating Manchester City in their final home game.

Brighton are a well-run club who have signed the Championship’s top talents before.

Players such as Adam Webster and Neal Maupay flourished in the second tier before moving to Brighton, while Matt Clarke traded Portsmouth for the Seagulls in 2019.

Clarke enjoyed two loan spells at Derby, winning the Player of the Year award last year.

Knight may not be ready to step into Brighton’s first-team, but the Seagulls may see him as one for the future and this summer could be the time to get him on the cheap.
