According to The Chronicle, Derby County want to take Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff on loan this summer.

Football Insider reported in May that Longstaff is going to tell Newcastle that he wants to leave this summer.

Longstaff is allegedly ‘frustrated’ that Steve Bruce barely picked him this past season and now wants to leave for first-team action.

The 21-year-old signed a new deal last summer, seemingly on the basis that he would feature under Steve Bruce.

That didn’t happen though, with the youngster only making five Premier League appearances over the course of the campaign.

A loan move seems likely, and Derby are now keen to bring in Longstaff to bolster Wayne Rooney’s squad.

This isn’t the first time Derby have been linked with Longstaff, with the Rams believed to be interested back in November 2020.

With Beni Baningime’s loan over, Longstaff could come in to give Rooney another midfield option, with his energetic style potentially a welcome addition at Pride Park.
