According to Wales Online, Derby County have been joined by Swansea City in the race to sign Aston Villa strier Keinan Davis on loan for the rest of the season.

The Villa striker is in high demand with a number of Championship suitors.

Derby’s initial interest was cited by Football Insider in the summer, with the editorial claiming the Rams and Preston North End both saw approaches turned down.

Now, Wales Online claim Swansea, Stoke City and Huddersfield Town are keen.

The Swans are on the lookout for another striker to bolster their promotion hopes. Steve Cooper’s side are well in the mix for automatic promotion this season.

But their attempts to sign Southampton’s Michael Obafemi were thwarted by injury.

Wales Online now claim Swansea have turned their attentions to Davis, however the young Premier League striker’s immediate future may depend on Villa’s transfer business.

The Villans have Ollie Watkins as their number one striker. Beyond the former Brentford man, Davis has been playing back-up while Wesley recovers from his long-term injury.

Wesley was supposed to be back in December. Getting the player match-fit, however, may take time and unless Villa make another addition then Davis may remain at Villa Park.

Davis, 22, has only made four substitute appearances for the club this season.

But standing at 6ft 3inch, he has plenty of physicality along with his technical ability.

Derby are desperate for a new striker this month. Colin Kazim-Richards currently leads the line, but at 34 there will be worries over his fitness levels later in the campaign.

The Rams are also the lowest scorers in the Championship. Their struggles in-front of goal currently sees interim manager Wayne Rooney’s side in the bottom three.

Davis would be ideal to come in and alternative with Kazim-Richards. However, a deal for him is already difficult without the growing list of competition for his signature.
