According to the Mirror (18 November, page 54), Derby County are lining up at least two new loan arrivals from Manchester City in the January transfer window.

The Rams are on the verge of a new takeover.

Prospective new Derby owner Sheikh Khaled is a relative of Manchester City backer Sheikh Mansour, and the Abu Dhabi consortium are looking to take advantage of their ties.

Derby are currently manager-less after the recent exit of Phillip Cocu.

The Dutchman oversaw the introduction of several promising young players. However, results this season haven’t been good enough to save his job.

The Rams are bottom of the Championship table with just one win from 11 games.

Derby owner Mel Morris has sought financial backing for some time, and prospective new owner Sheikh Khaled could bring an excitement era to the Pride Park club.

According to the Mirror, Derby will look to bring in at least two City players on loan in January which could signal the beginning of a fruitful partnership.

While the report mentions no names, one player who is familiar with the Derby surroundings is exciting striker Liam Delap who joined City from the Rams in 2019.

The 17-year-old is hugely promising and has already scored for the first team in the EFL cup while being handed his Premier League debut by Pep Guardiola.

Derby are desperately short upfront following Chris Martin’s departure in the summer. A new striker will be a top priority and could help ease any fears of relegation.
