According to the Daily Mail, Derby County have missed out on the signing of Reece Burke as the Hull City defender is set to join Luton Town on a free transfer.

The former West Ham United defender joined Hull back in 2018.

Burke was a regular for the Tigers this past season as Grant McCann’s side won the League One title following their relegation from the Championship last year.

But the talented defender is out of contract at the KCOM Stadium next month.

The Daily Mail claim Hull have been unable to agree terms on a new deal with Championship sides Derby, Bristol City, Cardiff City and Millwall vying for his signature.

Luton, however, appear to have won the race.

The Hatters have already signed Fred Onyedinma from Wycombe Wanderers this past week, and Nathan Jones’s side look set to add Burke in a bargain deal.

The 24-year-old has plenty of potential having previously played at England U20 level.

Derby, meanwhile, must bring in a few new defenders this summer.

Teden Mengi, Matt Clarke and George Edmundson have all returned to their parent clubs following loan spells, while Andre Wisdom and Curtis Davies are out of contract.

The Rams could head into July without a single recognised senior central defender.

Derby’s summer plans are already being hampered by the ongoing EFL case, and the club are in danger of having to play catch-up after missing out on key targets.
