Remember Johnny Russell?

Derby fans should recall when Russell formed a dangerous front three at Pride Park alongside Tom Ince and Chris Martin.

The Rams came so close to promotion with those three spearheading the attack, but it just wasn’t to be, and all have since moved on.

Russell hit 28 goals in 162 games for Derby following a 2013 move from Dundee United, and moved on to Sporting Kansas City in 2018.

The Scottish winger has been faring well in Major League Soccer, registering 27 goals and 24 assists in 101 outings for SKC.

Now, Russell is being strongly linked with a return to England, as The Scottish Sun report that three clubs are looking to sign Russell this summer.

Newcastle United want to take him to the Premier League whilst relegated Fulham and Sheffield United are looking to land him for their Championship returns.

Russell is now 31, but is seen as a serious target given that he will be available for free at the end of the US season and could be a cut-price signing this summer.

Years after being a fan favourite at Derby, Russell could end up playing against the Rams next season, and fans will hope he doesn’t come back to haunt Wayne Rooney’s men.
