According to the South London Press, Millwall have agreed a deal with Derby County to take Scott Malone on loan while Mason Bennett will also join the club.

The Rams are having a clear-out this summer as they look to trim the squad.

Several players, such as Chris Martin and Tom Huddlestone, have already left following the expiration of their contract but the departures aren’t stopping there.

Bennett, who joined Championship rivals Millwall on loan for the second half of last season, looks set to re-join Gary Rowett’s side on a permanent deal.

And the South London Press claim Malone will follow him on a season-long loan deal.

Malone joined Derby in 2018 from Huddersfield Town. He was Lampard’s eighth signing that summer, with the former Rams boss dubbing him integral (BBC).

“Scott is a player that I have liked for a long time. He’s an attacking left-back with lots of speed and, with the way we want to play, the full-backs are very important for us.”

Malone was largely a regular during Lampard’s short reign as Derby manager.

But the 29-year-old has since fallen out of favour under current Rams boss Phillip Cocu.

With Max Lowe, Lee Buchanan and the experienced Craig Forsyth as fellow options, Malone found himself way down the pecking order and unlikely to feature this term.

As his contract expires next summer, Malone has likely already played his last Derby game.

Cocu will be hoping the freed-up space on the wage bill can go on new players.

Derby have reportedly been under a soft embargo amid the EFL charges. However, with the Rams now cleared, they can start to look at seriously strengthening the squad.
