According to the Sheffield Star, Ravel Morrison is training with Sheffield Wednesday ahead of a possible move after recent links to Derby County and Huddersfield Town.

The former Manchester United man is currently without a club.

Morrison was linked with a move to Derby to link up with former United teammate and current Derby boss Wayne Rooney at Pride Park, but a deal ultimately never materialised.

Rooney told The Sun how he turned down the chance to sign the mercurial playmaker, saying he was happy with his current attacking options at the east Midlands club.

“Obviously I know Ravel because I played with him, but I am happy with the squad I’ve got, it’s a good squad of players. I hope Ravel can find a club which he deserves, because he’s a fantastic player, and I wish him all the best,” the Rams boss explained.

Morrison was later linked with Championship rivals Huddersfield Town.

Huddersfield manager Carlos Corberan has told BBC West Yorkshire how Morrison was an option for them as the Terriers considered bulking up their squad with free agents.

But again, nothing came of it and the 28-year-old was left contemplating his next move.

Wednesday, who are now under their third permanent manager of the season in Darren Moore, are running out of games in their bid for Championship survival.

The Owls halted a run of seven straight defeats with a draw against Huddersfield at Hillsborough on Wednesday, but it was a game they really needed to win.

Wednesday are nine points behind Birmingham City, with Derby a further two points ahead. They need to win at least five of their remaining ten games to stand a chance.

Morrison has plenty of talent. The Owls may believe he is a gamble worth considering, though question marks will remain over his fitness levels without regular first-team action.

Once dubbed a potential generational talent, former Lazio and West Ham ace Morrison is running out of opportunities to realise his potential after several failed spells elsewhere.
