According to The Athletic, Derby County defender Andre Wisdom is set to leave the club this summer with his contract at Pride Park expiring next month.

The defender joined the Rams from Liverpool in 2017 on a four-year deal.

Wisdom became a regular in the 2017-18 campaign, helping Derby reach the playoffs under Gary Rowett before falling out of favour under his successor Frank Lampard.

The former Liverpool man came back into the fold last season, with then boss Phillip Cocu deploying him as a central defender following the dismissal of Richard Keogh.

Wisdom has continued to feature at centre-back this season, making 36 league starts.

But with his contract expiring next month, the 28-year-old is seemingly set to leave with The Athletic claiming no formal negotiations have taken place over a renewal.

Curtis Davies and Martyn Waghorn are also out of contract, but unlike Wisdom, the report explains how those two are keen to remain at Derby for another year.

Wisdom is likely to be one of Derby’s higher earners with his move coming at a time where Mel Morris was still spending big, but the situation at Pride Park is far different now.

The club’s wage bill has decreased from £40 million in 2018 to under £15 million now.

Wisdom has been a solid performer during his time at Derby, but the club may feel they can get another central defender on a cheaper deal with potential to improve further.

With loanees Matt Clarke, Teden Mengi and George Edmundson returning to their parent clubs, Derby are going to have a big rebuild job regarding the defence this summer.
