Reported Derby County and Blackburn Rovers target Cameron Dawson has told the Sheffield Star he is in talks with Sheffield Wednesday over a new deal at the club.

The Star claim both Derby and Blackburn head a list of clubs interested in Dawson.

Speaking to the Star, however, Dawson says talks over an extension are underway and he hopes a deal can be reached soon as he sets his sights on staying with the Owls.

We are in dialogue with the club about it (contract) now. I want a quick resolution as much as anyone does. I like things done, I don’t like it when things drag on. Hopefully we will get things done and we can quickly move forward.

Dawson started the campaign as second choice behind Kieran Westwood.

The former Owls academy star, however, has since become the club’s number and has gone on to make 17 Championship appearances for Garry Monk’s side.

Both Derby and Blackburn will need to revise their goalkeeper situation soon.

The Rams started with Kelle Roos as number one. However, after a succession of errors, on-loan shot-stopper Ben Hamer has taken over number one duties.

Hamer returns to Huddersfield Town this summer. Derby will be short, and they must go out and buy a new number one who can be a long-term addition.

Blackburn, meanwhile, brought in Christian Walton on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion after selling David Raya to Championship rivals Brentford last summer.

Rovers will also need to bring in a new number one when Walton returns to the AMEX Stadium.
