Reported Derby County and Stoke City target Birkir Bjarnason has refused to rule out a shock move to Al-Arabi in Qatar when asked after Iceland’s win over Andorra, Fotbolti.net report.
The Sun on Sunday (September 29; Page 53), claim Derby and Stoke want Bjarnason.
The former Aston Villa man told Fotbolti.net last week how he has held talks with the Rams and Stoke over a potential return to the Championship.

But now a new destination could be in store for the midfielder.
When asked about a possible switch to Qatar to join up with Icelandic coach Heimir Hallgrimsson at Al-Arabi, Bjarnason suggested he is considering the move.

We’ll see. I have to look at myself and make some decisions and see what I do. I am very happy with my own performance [against France and Andorra], I’ve done my best and then hopefully something good will come.
Bjarnason proved this past week how he is ready for a new club.
The 31-year-old was Iceland’s best player in their 1-0 defeat by France. Playing in a central midfield role, he posted four interceptions and three successful take-ons.
Bjarnason proved his fitness against the 2018 World Cup winners, and he followed that up with another 70 minutes against Andorra as Iceland cruised to a 2-0 win.
Derby are short on driving midfielders and natural wide options. Bjarnason could offer quality in either role and he has shown he is match ready despite being without a club.

If the Rams or Stoke hope to conclude a deal for the free agent, they may have to ramp up their intentions. The Qatar league is growing, and they certainly aren’t short on cash.
