According to reporter Alan Nixon, Derby County striker Jahmal Hector-Ingram is set to join Stevenage late on deadline day, presumably on loan.

The former West Ham United youngster has made seven Championship appearances for Derby this season as he regularly makes the first-team squad.

But with Lee Gregory set to arrive from Stoke City to provide competition for Colin Kazim-Richards, Hector-Ingram’s chances of sustained action at Derby would decrease.

Writing on Twitter, Alan Nixon claims he is Stevenage bound.

A move to the League Two club will aid Hector-Ingram’s progress.

The striker is now 22, and at that age he needs to be playing regularly rather than featuring mainly for the U23s or the odd minute or two off the bench at first-team level.

Derby will have Kazim-Richards and Lee Gregory for options, while Martyn Waghorn is also a centre-forward by trade and Jack Stretton is impressing at U23 level.

The Rams have a long list of academy successes over the past few years.

But even those that don’t make the step up, Derby have spoken of their desire to help their young stars find clubs and offer them the opportunity to work their way up the pyramid.

It remains to be seen whether Hector-Ingram can become a regular at Championship level, and supporters will surely keep their eye out for his performances for Stevenage.
