STV reporter Chris Harvey has claimed on Twitter how Ryan Gauld has 30 plus offers on the table with former prospective Derby County owner Erik Alonso among the suitors.

Alonso agreed a deal to takeover Derby, pending EFL approval.

The latest from the club’s official website, however, has confirmed the takeover involving the 29-year-old Spaniard is now off following a response to an open letter.

Alonso was a questionable figure who drew controversy over his social media activity.

It appeared the former prospective new Derby owner was seeking to contact potential transfer targets on Twitter and sounded out Ryan Gauld as an option.

STV reporter Harvey, meanwhile, has since claimed Gauld has a long list of suitors.

Gauld, a former wonderkid dubbed the ‘Scottish Messi’ who has a £50 million buyout clause in his Sporting Lisbon contract (Guardian), is out of contact this summer.

The 25-year-old has been in superb form while on loan with Farense this season, posting an impressive nine goals and seven assists in 33 Portuguese top-flight games.

According to TEAMtalk earlier this month, Gauld’s performances have attracted the interests from clubs such as Brighton and Hove Albion, Brentford and Swansea City.

Derby currently aren’t in a position to compete with those clubs.

The Rams may have survived the drop into League One, but the Championship side are financially limited while the EFL charge has yet to be come to a full conclusion.
