Journalist Tom Barclay for The Sun has performed a U-turn by claiming Derby County are no longer an option to loan Rotherham United’s Freddie Ladapo until the end of the season.

The Rams are seemingly keen to bolster their attacking options before the deadline.

Stoke City’s Lee Gregory has been sounded out as an alternative to Colin Kazim-Richards.

But earlier in the day, The Sun reporter Tom Barclay claimed there was a possibility Rotherham striker Freddie Ladapo could end up at Derby on a six-month loan.

Barclay, however, has now performed a U-turn with the idea dismissed.

Derby ironically face Rotherham in Yorkshire on Tuesday evening.

The two clubs are very much in among those facing a relegation battle, with the Millers in the bottom three while Derby are five points clear of safety in 18th position.

The Rams have been impressive of late, winning their past three Championship games by a 1-0 score-line since suffering a 1-0 home defeat to Rotherham on January 16.

But Derby are still goal shy, scoring just 17 times in 26 league games this term.

Ladapo could have been an ideal option. However, a deal was always going to be unlikely with Rotherham surely unwilling to do business and help out a relegation rival.

The 27-year-old can operate out wide or through the middle. He has made 21 Championship appearances this season (12 starts), scoring five goals.
