Some Derby County supporters have taken to Twitter to comment on the confirmation of Groningen’s Mike te Wierik signing for the club on a three-year deal.
The defender is out of contract in the summer and has penned a pre-contract agreement.

Derby tried to sign te Wierik during the January transfer window. However, Groningen didn’t want to lose their captain midway through the campaign.
The 27-year-old will become manager Phillip Cocu’s first signing of 2020. And, some Derby fans think he could be the start of some more Dutch talent arriving.

Mike te Wierik is a right-footed central defender.
The Rams have been short of options since the sacking of Richard Keogh. Curtis Davies and Andre Wisdom are currently competing for a regular starting spot.
Te Wierik will no doubt fit the profile manager Phillip Cocu is looking for. He is comfortable on the ball and can initiate attacks from the back.
He has posted an 87.7% pass-accuracy rate for Groningen this term. Moreover, he has helped his side achieve the second-best defensive record in the Eredivisie.

Derby have in the past been careless and wasteful in the transfer market. However, signing te Wierik on a free transfer appears to be an intelligent move.
