Derby County could be about to come up against one of their former players in the race for promotion this term.
Derby County have put themselves in real contention for automatic promotion recently, currently sitting in second place – albeit level on points with Bolton Wanderers.
The Rams are approaching the business end of the season and could well be about to battle up to six or seven clubs for a place in the Championship.
While Paul Warne‘s side have boosted their squad with the free transfer of Dwight Gayle, a number of their promotion rivals are said to be looking t the free agent market themselves.
According to TEAMtalk, Peterborough United and Bolton Wanderers are considering moves for Ravel Morrison. The report states that Sheffield Wednesday also see the midfielder as an option in their bid to avoid relegation to the third tier.
Morrison joined Derby County in 2021, and Pride Park proved to be one of the few clubs he found some success at.
The 31-year-old claimed four goals and four assists in the Championship, but was unable to prevent the relegation that followed.
Morrison then went onto follow Wayne Rooney to DC United and scored twice, before he was left out of the squad for the 2023 season.
The Manchester United academy graduate is now available for absolutely nothing and could be about to return to England, but this time he could be competing with his former employers.
The Rams are set to host Bolton next month, so a potential move to The Toughsheet Community Stadium could lead to a reunion in the Midlands just weeks later.
Is Ravel Morrison still a threat?
Ravel Morrison was a positive for Derby County under Wayne Rooney, however his poor record everywhere else makes him a huge risk for interested parties.
The midfielder has been at 13 different clubs and has rarely spent longer than a season at each one. He has also been at the centre of a number of controversies and may not really be someone you want representing your side at such a key point in the campaign.
The Rams won’t feel concerned if he does join Peterborough or Bolton though, as they are still perfectly capable of finishing in the top two without any outside noise.
Bolton currently have a game in hand over Derby, however a win against Ian Evatt’s side in March would keep them above their rivals anyway. Meanwhile, Peterborough have dropped to a whopping ten points below the Rams.
