According to TEAMtalk, Derby County and Fulham are among a host of Championship clubs in talks to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Cameron Carter-Vickers on loan.

The 22-year-old central defender is back at Spurs after having his season-long loan deal with Championship strugglers Stoke City cut short earlier this month.

Carter-Vickers enjoyed previous loan spells at Ipswich Town and Swansea City. However, at Stoke, he struggled to get going, starting just 12 Championship games.

The report claims Spurs are set to move him out on loan again this month. Derby, Fulham, Huddersfield Town and Middlesbrough head a list of clubs keen on him.

The US international knows all about the Championship. His contract at Spurs expires next year, therefore a decent loan spell now could prompt a sale this summer.

Derby’s quest to sign another defender before the deadline:

Derby have long been linked with the player. The Rams are short on central defensive options, and they have made a new addition there a top priority this month.

Curtis Davies, 34, and Brighton and Hove Albion loanee Matt Clarke are the current first-choice options. Andre Wisdom and Craig Forsyth also provide back up.

Richard Keogh’s sacking has left a void at the back. Derby need to sign a specific type of centre-back who is comfortable on the ball and can initiate attacks.

Carter-Vickers posted an 84.3% pass-accuracy rate at Stoke. It seems he could fit the type, although he may not be Derby’s first choice ahead of the transfer deadline.

Fulham, meanwhile, may be looking at extra bodies in their push for promotion. The Whites are currently third, four points behind Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United.
