New Millwall manager Gary Rowett says he tried to add Callum Davidson to his backroom staff at Derby County during his spell at Pride Park, South London Press report.
Rowett has been confirmed as new Millwall boss following Neil Harris’s resignation.

Joe Carnall, who was with Rowett at Derby, has been added to Millwall’s backroom staff as head of analysis while also offering a hand on the recruitment side.
And Rowett also confirms former Preston North End defender Davidson will also join, after failing to get him to move to Pride Park during his spell as Rams boss.
I’ve been trying to get him [Callum Davidson] to work with me for a while now but he was up at St Johnstone and had a successful period there working and developing players – getting them into Europe and the top six. Then he was almost headhunted by Scotland [in 2017] to work with Gordon Strachan. That shows his coaching ability. I’m really excited for him to come down and be part of my backroom staff.
Will Gary Rowett be a success at Millwall?
Rowett joined Derby in spring 2017 and guided the Rams to a playoff position in the 2017-18 campaign. His side lost to eventual winners Fulham at the semi-final stage.
Davidson at the time was working as a coach with the Scotland national team.

Rowett joins a Millwall side who are currently 17th in the Championship table. They are five points above the drop zone and three points behind Rowett’s former side Derby.
Preserving the Lions’ Championship status will be the club’s minimal objective this season. But Rowett will also be judged on the club’s performance levels and style of football.
