According to the Daily Mail, Luton Town midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe has an offer on the table from Derby County while Huddersfield Town are also keen on him.

The former Manchester United youth player is out of contract with Luton.

Tunnicliffe has plenty of experience at Championship level. His situation at Luton has reportedly alerted several clubs who are keen to prize him away.

The Daily Mail claim Derby have made an offer to him alongside MLS clubs. Huddersfield, Barnsley and Hull City are also considering bringing him in.

Luton boss Nathan Jones spoke of his delight for Tunnicliffe in March. He dubbed the former Fulham man a strong character who was performing brilliantly for the Hatters.

“I’m really proud of Ryan. When I first came in, he’s a strong character in terms of certain ways and so on, and he had to be patient. I tried to be fair to him in the summer, but he wanted to stay, he wants to do well and it’s proved a great decision. He’s in wonderful form, he’s trained really well, he’s a big part of something with the character he’s shown, and I’m really proud of him because a lot of players would have taken the easy option. But he hasn’t, he’s stuck at it, and he’s been wonderful,” Jones told Luton’s official website.

What can Ryan Tunnicliffe offer Derby?

Tunnicliffe made 17 Championship starts last term, scoring twice.

Derby’s retained list from the 2020/21 campaign shows only 14 senior players contracted to the club beyond June. A big rebuild job is in store this summer.

The Rams, however, could be restricted to loans and free transfers while owner Mel Morris continues to seek a sale.

Derby are well stocked in the midfield area. Jason Knight, Max Bird, Graeme Shinnie and the injured Krystian Bielik offer plenty of strength in the middle of the park.

Tunnicliffe, however, can play further forward and offers another option.

The Rams were the lowest scorers in the Championship last season. While fingers can be pointed at the strikers, there was a notable lack of creativity from deeper areas.
