Reported Derby County and Swansea City target Samue Grandsir has yet to make an appearance this season after missing out on a transfer during the summer window.

The 24-year-old winger was heavily linked with a move during the summer.

His current club Monaco appointed Niko Kovac ahead of this season, and the Croatian’s first task was to reduce the Principality club’s bloated squad of over 40 senior players.

Maxifoot claimed Grandsir was high on the list of likely departures.

And Championship duo Derby and Swansea were both keen on a deal for him, with the former France U21 international rated at around £2.3 million.

Sky Sports Transfer Centre (08/09 at 18:39) highlighted the Rams’ initial interest, while Wales Online claimed Swansea were also vying for his signature.

But after much speculation, it seems Grandsir was instead set for a move to Spain.

Spanish editorial La Razon claimed Grandsir travelled to Spain ahead of a switch to Real Valladolid days before the October 16 deadline. A deal, however, never materialised.

It was a bizarre turn of events, and equally frustrating for Grandsir as his failed move has since cost him the opportunity of regular football as he remains out of favour in Monaco.

With a contract until 2023, it remains to be seen what happens in January.

Swansea haven’t exactly missed out as the Swans challenge towards the top of the table.

Derby, meanwhile, are rooted to the bottom of the Championship. With just one win and five goals to their name, the Rams’ dire form already cost Phillip Cocu his job.

There is a distinct lack of creativity in Derby’s side this season. Poland international Kamil Jozwiak has looked bright, but the same can’t be said of some of his teammates.

Tom Lawrence, Wayne Rooney, Duane Holmes and Martyn Waghorn have all underperformed, while Jordon Ibe has yet to feature as he works on his fitness.

Grandsir would have been a welcome addition at Pride Park. Unfortunately, he now represents another missed opportunity with Derby desperate for the January to arrive.
