Derby County youngster Max Hunt has made the Vanarama National League team of the week following his impressive form for loan club Aldershot Town.

Hunt joined the Conference side on an initial one-month loan in early September.

But after several decent performances, Aldershot confirmed they had struck a deal with the Rams to keep the central defender on loan until January.

Hunt’s progress has been rapid, and he’s only getting better and better.

The 20-year-old joined Derby’s academy in early 2018 from Matlock Town. He immediately slotted into the U23s, making 19 appearances for Darren Wassall’s side last term.

Derby generally make a decision on their young talent once they reach 20.

Players such as Timi Elsnick, Aaron Eyoma and Alefe Santos departed Derby after ending their teenage years, with the latter two ironically joining Aldershot Town.

Hunt has the opportunity with the Shots to show Derby what he can offer. So far, he looks a level above the Vanarama National League with some standout performances.

Aldershot beat Maidenhead United 2-0 at the weekend. It was their fourth win in ten games since Hunt arrived, helping the side move clear of the relegation zone.

Could Max Hunt find himself in Derby County’s first-team squad next season?

Derby are light on central defenders. Richard Keogh’s dismissal leaves a void, with Curtis Davies out of contract next summer while Matthew Clarke is only on loan.

Hunt has a great opportunity to seek a place in Derby’s first-team squad next season.
