Derby County lost 1-0 away at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday afternoon, with a number of players putting in poor performances. Tyrese Fornah in particular had a bad game.
Fornah made the move across Brian Clough way to Pride Park from arch rivals Nottingham Forest in the summer, and has put in some good performances since joining.
The defensive midfielder has spoken in recent weeks about how well he has settled in since making the move.
However, his performance against Shrewsbury was underwhelming to say the least.
24-year-old puts in very disappointing performance
Fornah started the match in one of the two holding midfield positions in a 4-2-3-1, sitting alongside Korey Smith.
He failed to impress however, only making 13 touches in the match before his substitution at half-time. On average, that is one touch every three-and-a-half minutes.
As a defensive midfielder, your role is also to win the ball back, to then play it off to your more creative players to start an attack.
This was something Fornah failed to do, winning zero of his four duels (ground and air combined).
He was also poor in possession, despite an 100% pass accuracy in the seven passes he made in the game. He lost possession three times, whilst also committing a foul.
He has the second lowest rating on SofaScore out of the players who started the game for Derby with a rating of 6.4, only Smith getting lower with 6.1.
Fornah’s replacement was not any better
The man who replaced Fornah was Conor Hourihane, who unfortunately for Rams fans was just as bad. He was the man who out the ball in the back of his own net, which ended up being the only goal in the game as Derby’s unbeaten run of seven games came to an end.
The Irishman was also poor in possession, with a 74% pass accuracy, losing possession 18 times.
Goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith was praised for his display in the Rams goal, on the contrary to Fornah, being praised as ‘brilliant’ but a journalist.
