Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder told The Star last year how Sheffield Wednesday were lucky to have reported Derby County target Cameron Dawson on their books.

According to The Star, Derby, Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers and Scottish Premiership side Rangers are all keen on Dawson who is out of contract next summer.

The Wednesday goalkeeper has been playing second fiddle to Kieron Westwood this season. And, it seems the Owls aren’t too fussed about renewing his current deal.

Blades boss Wilder, however, is a fan. 12 months ago, he explained how Wednesday were lucky to have him after he put in a superb display in the steel city derby.

I thought he was outstanding. He’s taken a bit of stick but we watched the game against Norwich back on the tape and he saved a pen, and made some unbelievable saves. I think they’re lucky to have a very good young goalkeeper on their books.

How Cameron Dawson earned Chris Wilder’s praise:

Dawson kept a clean sheet that day against a Blades side who eventually won promotion to the Premier League following their second-place finish in the Championship.

He stopped a penalty and recorded another five saves to frustrate Wilder’s side.

Now, Dawson rarely features for the Owls and their Championship rivals Derby, Preston and Blackburn may see him as a potential bargain in January.

From a Rams perspective, some supporters haven’t been too keen on Kelle Roos this season. The Dutchman is a fine shot-stopper but struggles to command his area.

Beyond Roos, Derby lack options with number two Ben Hamer on loan from Huddersfield Town. A new goalkeeper for added competition will soon be a priority.
