Derby County assistant manager Richie Barker has said that his ‘biggest frustration’ was that the Rams did not score more in their win over Northampton Town.
Derby were 4-0 victors on Tuesday night, with a brace from Max Bird and goals from Conor Washington and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing securing a second consecutive home win at Pride Park.
The result will have eased pressure on manager Paul Warne from fans, despite the fact it has come out that the board will be backing Warne.
Barker on ‘excellent’ Derby
Speaking to the Derby Telegraph after the game, Barker was full of praise for the Rams, who he described as ‘excellent’.
“The biggest frustration, if I am being honest without being disrespectful, was the fact that we didn’t score more. It was an opportunity to send out a real message tonight. But hopefully, it has.
“More importantly, I am sure that it’s about reaction. It’s about the players’ ability to put things behind them from 48 hours ago and I thought some of the stuff they played was excellent.”
Derby should have scored more
Like Richie Barker said, without being disrespectful to Northampton, this was a game in which Derby should have scored more than just the four goals.
They had 16 shots in the match compared to the Cobblers’ three, a staggering stat which just showed how dominant the Rams were on Tuesday night.
The Rams needed to respond after a disappointing 3-1 loss away at Stevenage on Saturday afternoon, and certainly reacted in the right way.
The Rams will be hoping to build off this win in the FA Cup when they take the trip to Crewe Alexandra on Sunday afternoon.
