Max Bird and Conor Hourihane were blown away by what their Derby County teammate did in training.
Speaking in last week’s press conference (as per Derbyshire Live), Paul Warne told the story of how the pair were left amazed by Tyreece John-Jules.
Tyreece John-Jules arrived at Pride Park on loan from Arsenal in August, however he only managed two appearances before suffering a thigh injury during the international break.
The forward didn’t return to the team until the win over Port Vale last time out, where he enjoyed a brief cameo appearance that saw him net the only goal of the game, two minutes after he came on.
Derby County will be hoping they have got past his injury problems, with the 22-year-old missing over 600 days of action since 2020.
Paul Warne has heaped praise on John-Jules following his comeback though and has admitted that even his teammates have been really impressed with the Arsenal loanee.
Writing for Derbyshire Live, journalist Leigh Curtis said: “Paul Warne told this story in the press conference on Monday about how he did this no-look pass in training and Max Bird and Conor Hourihane were on the sidelines and he said it was like the Labrador effect where they instantly perked up and were thinking ‘my God, did you see that?’
“And he’s capable of these sparkling moments of genius. And if anybody has not seen the goal that he scored against Shrewsbury last season, go and check it out because that is what he can do. He is an unbelievably gifted footballer, he’s played for England under-21s, but there is this burning question around his fitness and whether his body is strong enough to cope.”
Should Derby County keep Tyreece-John Jules?
Tyreece John-Jules’ loan deal is set to expire in January, though there is no doubt that Derby County will be reconsidering his time at the club following his goal against Port Vale.
The Rams currently have the likes of James Collins and Martyn Waghorn banging in the goals, though a recent ankle injury to Conor Washington leaves them light for options.
If Paul Warne is confident that John-Jules can stay fit for the rest of the season, it wouldn’t be surprised to see them extend his loan and keep him at the club until the summer.
Neither Derby or Arsenal will want to shut down his growth in confidence so quickly, as it is clear that the League One outfit could start to see the best of him now.
