Derby County signing makes ‘mid-table mediocrity’ claim after solid start to season

One Derby County signing has rated the start to the 2024/25 campaign under Paul Warne.

Derby County have undergone a solid start to life back in the Championship under Paul Warne, with them currently sitting in a respectable 12th position as the second international break draws to a close.

The Rams have been a force to be reckoned with at home at Pride Park, but haven’t quite managed to match the high levels shown in Derbyshire on their travels, after losing four in a row in the Championship away from home.

The solid start to the campaign can be put down to the new signings in Warne’s side, particularly in the centre-of-the-park, with David Ozoh and Kenzo Goudmijn particularly showing signs of quality.

Another brilliant acquisition for Derby County is attacker Kayden Jackson, who has commented on the start to the 2024/25 Championship campaign after the opening nine games of the season.

Kayden Jackson rates Derby County start to the Championship season

Jackson signed for Warne’s side this summer from newly-promoted Premier League outfit Ipswich Town, and it is clear that he has successfully adjusted to life in Derbyshire after notching four goal contributions in the league so far.

He has commented on the start to the season under Warne, per BBC Derbyshire on X, where he said: “We’ve made an okay start, we could have been better and there’s a couple of games we could have done worse so it’s about finding a balance.

“We’ve all got confidence and belief because you wouldn’t be in the championship if you didn’t.

“There are very few teams that want to settle for mid-table mediocrity and you know when you play one of those teams because the intensity is on their behalf and they just want an easy game.

“I think we’ve shown this season that we are not here to settle. There’s still a lot of learning, growing as a group to do. We want to be successful.”

Derby County currently find themselves in 12th, whilst being four points off the play-offs.

Paul Warne faces crucial moment to ensure Derby County push on

With the ‘confidence’ in the squad being evident, especially when playing at home, it is clear that Derby County must build on that for their upcoming games.

The Rams face away trips to both Millwall and Oxford United, and both games look like huge opportunities to finally get some points on the road.

If they suffer a successive fifth, and even sixth away defeat in the 2024/25 Championship season, then alarm bells may start to ring over the significant difference between performances whether home or away, and that is something that Warne and Derby County must see to if they are to push on and ‘be successful’.
