Derby County goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith has pleaded to the Derby fans to stick with the team after their 1-0 defeat to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday afternoon.
The Rams unbeaten run of seven games in all competitions came to an end on Saturday, with an own goal from Conor Hourihane giving Salop the three points.
After the match, Derby fans were vocal in their frustrations with both the players and manager Paul Warne.
Wildsmith pleads to Rams fans
Keeper Wildsmith, who was one of Derby’s better players on Saturday, pleaded to the Derby fans following the game, asking them to ‘stay positive’.
“I can see why they are frustrated,” he told the Derby Telegraph following the defeat at Shrewsbury.
“In the last couple of games, weather-wise and what has been going on across the country and in Derby itself, they’ve shown their faith by coming here to back the boys.
“It’s not the way we wanted to repay them. It’s frustrating and we fully understand why there were grievances at the end. But I would just ask them to stick with us and stay positive.
“We are working really hard every single day and we don’t take it lightly.”
Derby fans frustrations understandable
Whilst they had been unbeaten for seven games, you can understand the frustrations of the Derby fans.
Before the season started they were expected to be near the top of the table, pushing for promotion back to the Championship.
Instead they find themselves in eleventh place in League One, four points off the playoffs.
Despite the results, the performances have not been good enough either.
Particularly in attack, Derby have been poor, only scoring eight times in their last seven league games. Considering they have only lost two of those, it was only a matter of time before their lack of goals caught up with them.
If this form carries on, more people will be calling for Warne to be sacked.
