The international break is always a weird time in the football calendar, especially for Football League fans, but a forgotten former Derby County man just earned a surprising call-up to represent his country.
As a team only just starting to find their feet in the Championship again after two years in League One, it is not surprising that Derby County don’t have many players heading off for international duty throughout the season.
That’s a bonus for Paul Warne, who gets to spend extra time with his players during the break preparing for their upcoming games.
While Ebou Adams continues to impress for Gambia, and Jacob Widell Zetterstrom is keeping the bench warm for Sweden, it is a former Rams player who has just made the headlines for the first time in a while.

Ravel Morrison gets call-up to Jamaica squad
As Steve McLaren prepares for Jamaica’s quarter-final second leg game in the CONCACAF Nations League against the USA, it seems he is leaning on a former Derby County man to help his side overcome a one-goal deficit from the first leg.
Despite turning out for UAE third-tier side, Precision FC, right now, none other than Ravel Morrison has been called up to the Jamaica squad.
The ex-Manchester United starlet has 18 caps to his name for Jamaica, after switching allegiances from England years ago.
His last appearance in the yellow and green came way back in March 2023, but he could be in line for a surprise revival at international level now.

Derby County one of many clubs Ravel Morrison played for
Morrison started his career at Manchester United as was touted as the next big thing at Old Trafford, but his career spiralled downhill after a number of off-field issues.
A transfer to West Ham, and loan spells at a slew of different clubs, including Birmingham City, QPR, and Cardiff City couldn’t get the winger’s career back on track. Morrison then spent time in Italy with Lazio, before moving to Mexico, Sweden, and the Netherlands.
| Statistic | Ravel Morrison at Derby County |

Morrison arrived at Derby County in 2021 with Wayne Rooney signing his former United teammate as a free agent. He spent a year at Pride Park before following Rooney to the USA to join DC United.
In the past, Rooney has told the Sunday Times that Ravel Morrison ‘had everything’ he needed to succeed, but admitted he ‘struggled’ with the lifestyle of a footballer.
