Wolves U21 manager James Collins had praised Derby County as one of the ‘toughest’ opponents in the EFL Trophy.
Derby host Wolves on Wednesday night in their third and final match in their group.
The Rams are currently sat top of the group after previously beating Notts County and Lincoln City, whilst Wolves are third.
Wolves need to win if they are to have any hope of qualifying, and by a three goal margin due to Derby’s superior goal difference.
Collins praises Paul Warne and his Rams
Speaking to their club website ahead of their trip to Pride Park, Collins was full of praise for the Rams.
“It’s only a good night if you go there and put on a good performance. It will probably be one of our toughest games of the season.
“Derby play really strong players in this competition and they take it seriously. I think Paul Warne has won it with Rotherham in the past and he takes it seriously.
“They have a big squad so it won’t be a group of Derby County’s under-21s, it’ll be a group of Derby County’s first-team or first-team fringe players.
“We will have to be at our very best to get anything out of the game, but what a challenge that is for us and what an occasion it is for us.”
Derby favourites heading into game
Collins had plenty of praise for Derby County, who are undoubtedly favourites.
The Wolves boss seems to be aware of this, and does seem to be expecting a defeat.
But there is no doubt he will want his youngsters to put in a good performance and make a good account of themselves.
