Derby County manager Paul Warne has demanded from his players that they need to create more chances if they are going to start winning games again.
The Rams are coming off the back of a humiliating 1-0 loss at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday afternoon, with an own goal from Conor Hourihane giving Salop all three points at the Crowd Stadium.
Warne in particular received plenty of backlash after the game from Rams supporters, with goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith asking fans to stay positive and stick with the team.
Warne wants Derby to ‘create more’
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of their clash with Exeter City on Tuesday night, Warne has said he wants his team to ‘create more’ going forward.
“It’s always a concern, even if it was only 45 minutes where we didn’t take them,” Warne told the Derby Telegraph.
“We should be fourth in the league for the amount we create and at the moment we aren’t even in the top ten, so we do need to be more ruthless in front of goal.
“It’s a concern but it’s a collective concern,” Warne added.
“It’s not just about taking the chances that we create, we need to create more. It is a concern but today in training it looked like everything the lads hit went in the top corner. Hopefully everything will work when it comes to the game and we will see the best version of ourselves.”
Goal scoring needs to improve
Scoring goals has been a problem for Warne and his team that has gone under the radar amid their unbeaten run.
The Rams were unbeaten for seven games in all competitions before Saturday afternoon.
However, now in their last eight games, they have only scored twelve. Their lack of goals, especially when they have only lost one of their last eight, is a concern.
The concern for Warne being that their lack of goals would finally catch up with them, which it looks like it may have done.
