Derby County manager Paul Warne has sent his squad a message by saying that ‘success is always remembered’.
The Rams have lost one game of their last ten in all competitions, but Warne has previously said that their lack of goals is something he would like to improve on.
With a number of players recovering from injuries over the international break, Warne will be hoping to mount a promotion push with his players.
Warne wasn’t Derby squad to live up to expectations
Warne has said that he would like this squad at one a big success, and has sent them a message for them to try to be a team remembered by Rams fans for a long time.
“I want this group of lads to be remembered in 10 to 20 years’ time,” Warne told the Derby Telegraph.
“I listened to the radio the other night and the England rugby union World Cup winners were on. I am not trying to compare a League One promotion team to World Cup winners, but success is always remembered.
“They just found a way to win whereas with us we just haven’t found a way to win when we are on top. I just want the lads to have a season they can enjoy and look back on with fondness.
“Every manager will probably be the same, but I do feel we should be four or five points better off,” Warne added.
“I don’t want to live with regret and I don’t want the players to either. Life is too short. Hopefully, we perform at a level on Saturday that gives us a chance to win.”
Warne is right about the players
With Derby being pre-season favourites to be one of the teams potentially winning League One, it is not surprising that Warne would like a lot of success with this current crop of players.
Currently sat in ninth position, the Rams are two points off of the play-off places, so the gap is very tight.
But it will take a winning streak to get to the top of the table, with Portsmouth currently unbeaten m, ten points clear of Derby at the summit of League One.
Warne’s next game with the Rams is on Saturday, an away trip to Shrewsbury Town.
