Derby County manager Paul Warne has labelled Nathaniel Mendez-Laing as an ‘unbelievable talent’, claiming he is Derby’s ‘most exciting player’.
Mendez-Laing has returned from the international break with Guatemala in incredible form, coming off the bench against Shrewsbury Town last weekend.
He then started against Exeter City on Tuesday night, scoring the first goal as the Rams went on to win 2-0.
Warne raves about Derby star
Speaking to the Derby Telegraph ahead of their clash away at Stevenage on Saturday, Warne was full of praise for Mendez-Laing, saying:
“Probably the same as everybody else really. There have been moments of excellence and moments of disappointment, possibly. When he is on song, he is unplayable. I feel for him because he is the quickest and most exciting player. Every time he gets the ball he can’t go past three players like he is Charles Charley-Charles.
“But there is expectation of him or for him from me, his team-mates, and everybody. The other thing I know from speaking to other managers is that they all double up on Nat. It makes it really difficult for him to be as amazing as he wants to be.”
Mendez-Laing continues good form
Mendez-Laing was brilliant against Exeter as his excellent run of form continues.
The stats backed up his performance, too. He made the most successful dribbles with seven, more than any other player on the pitch.
He was also second in the match for most key passes, with four. He was also third for the amount of touches, with 70.
Journalist for the Derby Telegraph Leigh Curtis was also raving about Mendez-Laing’s performance, saying it was his ‘best performance of the season’.
