Paul Warne issues Eiran Cashin suspension verdict after Derby County ‘blow’ in Coventry City win

Derby County are back in Championship action against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to that meeting, the Rams faced off with Coventry City away from home on Wednesday, November 7th.

Derby County had a previously dire record when playing away from Pride Park in 2024/25, picking up just two points in their previous away fixtures before Coventry.

However, to the delight of Paul Warne and the fans, Derby beat Coventry 2-1 in midweek.

It was a major win for the Derbyshire outfit but Derby fans were still angry with Warne during the game for one clear reason.

In the end though, despite it not being the best display from the recently promoted side, it was a much-needed three points that has seen the club move to 13th in the Championship table.

Paul Warne responds to Eiran Cashin booking during Coventry City vs Derby County

While the Derby manager was pleased to pick up the win on the night, he did highlight one problem post-match.

Eiran Cashin started the game at centre-back and was shown a yellow card after just 34 minutes.

That booking was the stopper’s fifth of the season and now means he will miss Derby’s next Championship fixture against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

After Coventry, Warne issued his verdict on Cashin’s booking to Rams TV, dubbing it ‘harsh’.

He said: “The other blow is Cash [Cashin] who got his fifth booking, which seemed beyond harsh”

How Derby County will replace Eiran Cashin vs Plymouth

Derby opted to deploy a five-back formation against Coventry that saw Nat Phillips partner Cashin and Curtis Nelson at centre-back.

Cashin’s suspension likely means that we will see Warne revert back to a four-man defence this weekend with Phillips and Nelson in the middle.

After his injury, Kane Wilson returned off the bench on Wednesday and will likely start at right-back against Wayne Rooney’s side.

Derby were dealt another blow in midweek with Callum Elder picking up a groin injury and Craig Forsyth will likely start at left-back in his place this weekend.
