Derby County manager Paul Warne has said that the club will be looking abroad for signings in January.
The transfer window opens up once again in under two months’ time, and Warne will be looking for reinforcements as he tries to get Derby promoted to the Championship.
He has been under pressure recently because of poor form and performances in League One as of late, with the Rams sat in seventh position, two points outside the playoffs.
Warne makes Derby transfer admission
Speaking to the Derby Telegraph ahead of their clash with Barnsley on Saturday afternoon at Pride Park, Warne addressed potential incomings in the January window, including that of a striker.
“We are always trying to get more goals into the team and the easiest way to do that is to bring in a striker who can score goals.
“I watched Monday night football and they were talking about the top number nines in European football and there is a massive dearth of them. Most are over 30 and I am not saying we are signing one from PSG before the fans get excited.
“But we are looking at different avenues. Players who can play across the front three. Strikers are the most expensive thing in the world and in January there are no free transfers. You have to be clever. The conversations are never ending, but we are not the only club trying to sign different attacking options. We are looking abroad as well. We’ve looked in America and lower leagues in Germany. We are looking at every single avenue we can to try to reinforce this team.”
Do Derby need a striker?
Striker is a position that whilst the Rams are well stocked in that department, goals have been a problem recently.
Martyn Waghorn is Derby’s top scorer so far this season with six goals, with James Collins also having five, the next highest goal scorers are Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Conor Washington, who each have three.
Derby have goals coming from all over the pitch, so you feel that a 20-goal-a-season striker is just what they need to propel themselves higher up the table.
Paul Warne’s side have recently been linked with signing AFC Wimbledon striker Ali Al-Hamadi.
