Derby County manager Paul Warne has agreed with the statement that the Rams are unpredictable.
After producing what was arguably one of their best performances this season on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Barnsley, Warne’s side followed that up with an embarrassing 1-3 defeat at home to Crewe Alexandra in a FA Cup first-round replay.
The performance has been slammed by Warne, journalists and fans alike, with some players being described as ‘desperately poor’ on the night.
Derby boss agrees with one thing
Speaking to BBC Radio Derby following the defeat to Crewe, Warren agreed that he never knows what type of performance he will get from his team each week.
When asked about Derby being unpredictable, Warne said: “It’s a fair comment and same for me.”
“I picked virtually the same side from the performance on Saturday.
“I’ve said it many times, when we win on Saturday I don’t come away going ‘wow, we have got everything sorted, we are the best team in the league’. I don’t think that.
“Everyone plays to be the best they can. Maybe a couple of the senior players could have got hold of the game but Crewe made it difficult for us and we didn’t have enough individuals at their best.
“If you interviewed all of my players, none of them would say they consciously didn’t try or anything like that. They just weren’t good enough to win the game.”
Warne needs to get consistency from Derby
The performance and result on Tuesday night was embarrassing for all involved from a Derby perspective.
Warne slammed the team for not creating enough chances, an issue which has been talked about for some time.
The fact that Warne agrees that his side shows unpredictability is not a good sign. But he is right, and Derby need to show more consistency if they are to push themselves higher up the table in League One.
