Paul Warne shares injury update on Derby County trio ahead of Norwich City
Injuries were a huge problem for Paul Warne last term, and while they didn’t derail Derby’s promotion charge, it made the job of finishing in the top two even harder.
The Championship side have encountered familiar issues at the start of this campaign, with on-loan midfielder David Ozoh sidelined till after the international following a hamstring strain.
Supporters also feared the worst for left-back Callum Elder, who has made a terrific start to the season, after he was substituted towards the end of their defeat to Sheffield United.

Warne has since confirmed that Elder has tweaked his groin and will miss the next three to four matches.
Speaking to Derby’s official website, he said: “He’s doing well but he will be out for a little while – he’s tweaked his groin. He won’t play any part in the next three or four games.”
While it’s a huge blow losing the Australian, the Derby boss did have some positive news to deliver on right-back Kane Wilson as well as Jake Rooney, who suffered a knee injury during pre-season.
Warne added: “Kane Wilson is fine – he could have been in the squad last week. Jake Rooney will be back on the grass today.”
Jake Rooney update a big boost to Paul Warne
It’s been just over a year since Rooney suffered an ACL injury against Bolton Wanderers that kept him out for the full season.
To make matters worse, the 21-year-old spent nine months recovering before suffering a knee injury in pre-season that was set to keep him out for at least four months.
Luckily, the young defender appears to have made a miraculous recovery after undergoing surgery, as he’s now back on grass and that will be a big boost to Warne.
While he won’t be expected to start instantly, especially with Curtis Nelson and Eiran Cashin continuing their partnership, Rooney will be an important depth option alongside Sonny Bradley.
Rooney is seen as an important long-term part of the football club and having him back fit is great news for everyone concerned.
