Reported Derby County target Cameron Dawson has been in poor form of late pushing some Sheffield Wednesday supporters to call for Kieren Westwood’s return.

Derby were among several club linked with a move for the Owls goalkeeper.

The Sheffield Star claimed the Rams, Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers were monitoring his situation as Dawson’s former contract expired this coming summer.

The 24-year-old, however, penned a new deal at Hillsborough in January.

For Derby and Lancashire duo Preston and Blackburn, it was a moment to forget about signing the player and focus on new targets ahead of the summer.

As for Dawson, it should have signalled a weight off his shoulders. However, his new deal at Wednesday has coincided with an awful run of form in the league.

Since beating Leeds United 2-0 at Elland Road, Wednesday are winless in six.

Garry Monk’s side have fallen away from the playoff race. They have conceded 12 goals in their last six league games, including a 5-0 defeat at home to Blackburn.

Dawson’s average Whoscored rating of 5.9 over the past six games ranks among the lowest in the Championship for goalkeepers.

Derby certainly need to bring in another shot-stopper. Ben Hamer will return to parent club Huddersfield Town this summer, while Kelle Roos is inconsistent.

But on current form the Rams may be glad to miss out on Dawson.
