The five best Derby County players that have also played for Cardiff City, including 185-app attacker

Derby County are rallying up for their next Championship fixture as they look to see off Cardiff City.

The Rams will be hoping to make it three home wins on the spin as they welcome Cardiff City to Pride Park.

For what feels like the first time in the 2024/25 Championship campaign, Paul Warne’s side will be going into the tie as favourites, especially after Cardiff City’s poor start to the season, who have conjured up just one point in their opening four ties.

The game will see Warne handed a selection headache, particularly around his players in the centre-of-the-park, including Kenzo Goudmijn, David Ozoh, Ben Osborn and Ebou Adams.

Former Sheffield United midfielder Osborn will be looking to get back into the side, however Warne’s current midfield is indispensable, of which includes former Cardiff City man Adams, who is one of many players to have represented both sides during their career.

Ebou Adams

Adams is a current Rams player, who was signed on a permanent deal in the summer from the Bluebirds.

He was signed by the South Wales outfit following a successful spell with Forest Green Rovers, however managed just 11 league appearances with them before he was loaned out to Warne’s side in League One, where he made a significant impact at Derby County.

Tom Lawrence

Tom Lawrence played a significant role for Derby County from the 2017/18 season onwards for a five-year spell in Derbyshire.

He racked up a highly impressive 185 appearances for Derby County during his time at the club, and scored 37 goals, whilst also notching 25 assists in all competitions.

His final season at the club saw him captain the side, however they unfortunately suffered relegation to League One before a move to Rangers.

His stint at Cardiff City was very brief, with him tallying just 14 appearances in the 2015/16 season whilst on loan from Leicester City.

Harry Wilson

Liverpool loanee Harry Wilson was certainly a hit during his time at Derby County.

His exquisite free-kick against Manchester United is a brilliant moment in the Rams’ recent history, and he also proved to be a brilliant talent during Frank Lampard’s tenure as Derby County boss.

His spell in the Welsh capital was also a successful one, with him scoring seven and getting an incredible 12 assists in just 38 games throughout the 2020/21 campaign.

David Marshall

Former Derby County shot-stopper David Marshall joined up at Pride Park in the summer of 2020 from Wigan Athletic at the age-of-35.

He managed just one season with Derby County in the Championship, where he tied down the starting spot in-between the sticks, conceding just 40 goals in 33 games for the Rams.

For Cardiff City, he managed an incredible 278 appearances, spending more time in Wales than at any other club in his career.

This included a season in the Premier League, where Cardiff City were relegated in their first season back in the top flight in the 2013/14 campaign.

Craig Bryson

Former Scottish international midfielder Craig Bryson managed 276 appearances at Derby County, more than any other club during his career.

As a midfielder, he managed 68 goal contributions at the club and was a real integral part during his seven year tenure at the club.

His spell of several years at the club involved a season long loan at Cardiff City, who were also in the Championship at the time.
