Derby County take on Bristol City in the Championship this weekend.

Derby County return to Championship action following a cup upset vs League two Barrow on Tuesday night.

The Rams were beaten on penalties in the Carabao Cup, following what was an overall dire performance from Paul Warne’s side.

The game ended 0-0 and Barrow won the penalty shoot-out.

For Warne though, all focus can now turn towards the Championship, with another tough assignment on the agenda for this weekend.

So far in this 2024/25 season, Derby County have lost two and won one in the league.

Derby County beat Middlesbrough 1-0 in their only win of the season, then lost 2-1 vs Watford in their last outing.

Bristol City are up next; the Robins currently it in 7th and are unbeaten this season, having drawn two and won once.

Last time out, Liam Manning’s side drew 1-1 a home to Coventry City.

Ahead of the weekend, Warne has given an injury update on Ben Osborn and Eiran Cashin, who were both absent last weekend.

Eiran Cashin and Ben Osborn injury updates at Derby County

Cashin is sidelined trough concussion protocols, initially ruled out for two weeks following the injury he sustained vs Boro on August 17th.

Osborn is struggling with a minor calf injury, missing the last two games now, including the Barrow game.

Speaking after the defeat vs Barrow, Warne was quizzed on Cashin and Osborn’s fitness, and whether they could potentially feature against Bristol City this weekend.

Warne told the club: “Still probably too early. I’ll speak to the medical team again, as we do daily, but I haven’t got a definitive answer on that.”

A major concern for Paul Warne at Derby County right now

Last time out vs Watford, Warne only named eight players on his bench, of a possible nine available.

Recent injuries has highlighted a distinct lack of first-team depth and quality among the ranks at Pride Park, especially in defence after Cashin’s injury and Kane Wilson’s injury.

Whilst Warne has good step-ins for both players; Sonny Bradley and Ryan Nyambe respectively, if there was another injury in defence then it would really give Warne an issue.

The transfer window slams shut on Friday and before then, Warne may be praying for one more defensive addition to ensure his side has enough depth to get through until January at least.

The game vs Bristol City kicks off at 3pm on Saturday.
