According to el crack Deportivo, Derby County remain an option to sign Luciano Acosta after the player spoke of his wish to move to Europe in January.

Acosta’s contact at DC United expires next month and he is set to leave.

The 25-year-old recently told Argentine radio how former teammate Wayne Rooney has told him to join up with the England international at new club Derby County.

Rooney has already arrived at Pride Park and began training this week. However, he is ineligible to play for the Rams until January when his move officially goes through.

Acosta seemingly has options on the table. Yet, the Argentine attacker is quoted as telling Argentine programme ESPN Redes of his wish to move to Europe.

Europe is my goal today. I have to see I have several options in Europe, also in Boca, but we have to sit down and talk about what is best for me.

Could Derby County reunite Wayne Rooney and Luciano Acosta?

The report goes on to say Derby County remains an option. Also, Saudi Arabia side Al-Ittihad are keen but this is unlikely as he sets his sights on a European switch.

Acosta has an abundance of talent. In 2018, he posted an impressive ten goals and 17 assists in 33 games – one shy of the MLS record for assists in a single year.

The former Boca Juniors player was on the verge of joining Paris Saint-Germain last January. However, after taking a medical, a deal fell through at the last moment.

Rooney later told reporters how Acosta is one of the best players he has played with, amid reported interest from Premier League side Manchester United.

It would be quite a coup if Derby could pull off a deal for him in January.
