Derby County have agreed to sign another midfielder ahead of the Championship season.

Paul Warne has played the summer transfer window ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season very well.

He has identified the centre-of-the-park as an area that the Rams must strengthen following their promotion from League One, especially after the release of experienced midfielders Conor Hourihane and Korey Smith.

Warne has also looked to bring in attackers with Corey Blackett-Taylor, Kayden Jackson and Jerry Yates joining Derby County.

Derby County managed to strike a deal that would see former Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Osborn join up at Pride Park following his release from Sheffield United.

Dutch midfielder Kenzo Goudmijn has also had his move to the Championship outfit confirmed.

Warne hasn’t stopped there with his pursuit for midfielders, after having agreed a deal to bring in a Championship midfielder after ‘both parties happy with the conclusion’.

Derby County agree fee for Cardiff City midfielder Ebou Adams

Derby County have managed to reach a deal with fellow Championship side Cardiff City that will see Ebou Adams return to Pride Park following a successful loan spell last season.

The Gambian international, who will be joining for a reported fee of ‘£900,000’, will sign for Derby County ‘next week’ with ‘both parties happy with the conclusion’, per Darren Witcoop on X.

Adams played on 17 occasions for Derby County in the latter half of the 2023/24 season, after he joined the club in January.

Adams has previously had spells at Cardiff City, as well as at Forest Green Rovers.

Why Ebou Adams will be crucial for Paul Warne’s Derby County plans

Prior to Adams’ arrival at Derby County, the Rams were still getting results but were less assured defensively.

Since the Gambian arrived from Cardiff City, him sitting either in front of the defence alongside Smith or Hourihane in the middle added that extra security needed for Derby County, which would give the likes of Louie Sibley when he played left wing-back the option to move further forward when needed.

He is a strong and physical player that thrived under Warne, showing that the former Rotherham boss will be able to get the most out of the 28-year-old.

Of course Adams’ gametime in his first season with current club Cardiff City was limited as a result of various injury issues, however his return to first team football went far from smoothly, being given just three starting appearances for the Bluebirds.

It’s clear that Adams’ future doesn’t lie with Cardiff City, and he will be aware that Pride Park is a place he can get guaranteed Championship game time under a manager that values him, and for good reason after the brilliant performances he put in to help Derby County to promotion in the 2023/24 season.
