Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has ruled out Jack Simpson leaving the club amid interest from Derby County and Middlesbrough, the Daily Echo report.

Simpson has made just one Premier League start for the Cherries this season.

Howe suggested to the Daily Echo last week how he could be willing to facilitate a loan move to help aid the central defender’s development.

Sky Sports claimed Derby and Middlesbrough were eyeing a potential deal.

Howe, however, has now backtracked and ruled out a move for Simpson.

Jack will be staying with us due to a couple of problems that we have.

Howe’s comments came after Bournemouth’s FA Cup defeat at home to Arsenal.

The Cherries have struggled with injuries this season. Their failure to strengthen this month also places extra pressure on Howe to get the most out of his available players.

Both Derby and Boro have been in the market for a new defender this month.

The Rams have a big void at the back following the sacking of Richard Keogh. Curtis Davies, 34, right-back Andre Wisdom and loanee Matt Clarke have filled in.

Manager Phillip Cocu has been desperate to bring in another defender this month. The Derby boss, however, has been left frustrated as attempts have come to nothing.

Boro, meanwhile, are also keen on adding another defender. Sky Sports claimed Ben Gibson was their top target, but Burnley aren’t willing to let him go.
