According to Actu Cameroun, St Etienne defender Harold Moukoudi has been left frustrated as a potential move to Derby County failed to materialise.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from St Etienne this month. Le Parisien claim Championsip rivals Derby and Stoke City are keen.

The French report adds that both Derby and Stoke made loan offers for him.

St Etienne manager Claude Puel, however, has turned down approaches for Moukoudi despite the central defender struggling to maintain a regular starting spot.

Moukoudi has made just 11 starts in the French top-flight this season.

Actu Cameroun say the Cameroon international doesn’t understand his coach’s decision and was welcoming of a move to England during the January transfer window.

Derby are on the lookout for a new central defender this month. The sacking of former captain Richard Keogh back in October has left a big void at Pride Park.

Andre Wisdom and Brighton loanee Matt Clarke started the recent defeat at Luton Town. Curtis Davies, 34, was previously a regular before suffering from fitness issues.

Manager Phillip Cocu had hoped to bring in a new defender early on. However, the Dutchman has also been left frustrated at a lack of movement this month.

Derby have also been linked with Leicester City’s Filip Benkovic (Daily Mail) and Bournemouth’s Jack Simpson (Sky Sports) but so far, their intentions have been futile.
