Derby County want a new striker through the door before the transfer window shuts on Friday.

After winning promotion to the Championship last season, Derby County have been working hard to ensure their squad can survive a relegation battle in the current season.

Paul Warne has so far made 10 first-team additions to the Rams’ senior squad this month.

Tawanda Chirewa is the latest Derby signing, with the attacking midfielder making his debut in the club’s League Cup defeat to Barrow on August 27th.

Despite 10 names already arriving at Pride Park this month, however, Warne still wants at least one more addition ahead of Deadline Day on August 30th.

After Chirewa, the main area of concern for the Derby boss looks to be his forward line, with plenty of strikers linked of late.

Derby County struggling to sign striker for Paul Warne

Kayden Jackson and Jerry Yates have already signed for Derby this summer but neither player has had a great start to life at the club.

Jackson did score when the Rams picked up a shock 1-0 win over Middlesbrough earlier this month.

But outside of that goal, which was something of a gift, both forwards have failed to impress.

Now, speaking after his side failed to score against Barrow, Warne has revealed Derby are struggling to bring in a new forward as there is a lot of competition from other clubs, as per Derbyshire Live.

He said: “There will be some movement because we still need to bring in more goal threat, however that looks.

“Ideally that would be a nine, maybe a 10 or a wide player. I still think we need defensive cover. I have the scope to do it as I have money in the budget but what shouldn’t come as a surprise is there are clubs chasing the same players. When they are loans as well, you are competing on a level playing field. Players have decisions to make.

“We thought we had one then the club we were hoping to sign him from decided to keep him. And because this is how football works, all the agents know this player isn’t now coming to us and then you go after another one and know that they weren’t our first choice.

“It is a political and emotional rollercoaster. I am anticipating it will go right up until 11pm on deadline day. It is apparent that we need an injection of new faces.”

What strikers have Derby County been linked with

Luton Town’s Cauley Woodrow was linked with Derby earlier in the window but a deal for the Englishman appears to have gone cold.

Elsewhere, one Premier League club’s transfer activity could open the door for the Rams to land another centre-forward.

Derby hold an interest in Tom Cannon, who Leicester City are willing to let leave this month.

However, Warne is expected to face competition from the likes of Luton and Sheffield United for the striker’s signature.

Elsewhere, former Derby centre-forward Tyreece John-Jules was spotted at Watford when the two sides faced off last weekend after becoming a free agent, sparking speculation of a potential return to Pride Park.
