Derby and Boro are reportedly keen on a move for Toney.

Peterborough chairman MacAnthony says bids have arrived for his side’s prized asset. However, he warns suitors the in-form striker won’t leave on the cheap.

Ivan Toney will break the record if he ever gets sold out of League One for a League One sale. He’s definitely worth a lot more than we’ve been offered and definitely worth a lot more than the previous sales we’ve had. If we sold Ivan, and we’ve told clubs this, it would be for a Peterborough transfer record, for a lot more than we’ve done before.

Peterborough have a recent history of selling their top strikers.

In 2013, they sold Dwight Gayle to Crystal Palace for a record £6 million. Derby signed Jack Marriott in 2018, while current Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga traded Posh for Nottingham Forest in 2014 with the League One side pocketing a healthy profit.

Toney only joined Peterborough in the summer of 2018 from Newcastle United. But, after netting 23 goals in his debut campaign, he is on course to better that this season.

Derby have plenty of attacking strength in Chris Martin, Tom Lawrence, Martyn Waghorn and Marriott. Phillip Cocu would arguably be better off strengthening elsewhere.

Boro, however, desperately need extra quality upfront. Jonathan Woodgate’s side have scored just 11 league goals this term as they currently sit in the bottom three.
