Derby County missed a trick by not signing Glen Kamara for a bargain fee as Rangers now want £8 million for him following reported Leeds United interest, the Herald report.

Kamara joined Rangers from Dundee for a mere £50,000 last January.

According to the Daily Mail, Derby were interested in the player prior to the January transfer window but the Rams opted against pushing ahead for his signature.

It was a big mistake. Kamara quickly showed his potential at Rangers. Moreover, he completely dominated Derby’s midfield in the pre-season friendly last summer.

The Rams have been guilty of spending big fees on mediocre players over the years. Ikechi Anya, Bradley Johnson, Nick Blackman, David Nugent, Jason Shackell, Jacob Butterfield, Andre Wisdom and Florian Jozefzoon cost them over £30 million combined.

None improved the Rams, while some are still at Pride Park contributing very little.

Kamara would have been a terrific buy at a bargain price. The former Arsenal holding midfielder is strong, quick, comfortable on the ball and leads by example.

The Herald claim Premier League trio Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Brighton are keen. Leeds too, with Rangers open to offers in the region of £8 million.

Such a fee would represent a stunning profit for the Gers in just a year.

Kamara may feel he has unfinished business after being let go by Arsenal. And, at 24, he will undoubtedly get another crack at the Premier League sooner or later.
