Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman warns how his side don’t need to sell their top players such as Derby County target Dion Charles, Lancashire Telegraph report.

Charles has been a leading figure for Accrington this season.

The Northern Ireland international has posted an impressive 19 goals and three assists in League One this term, attracting the interests of several Championship clubs.

The Sun claim Derby, Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town are all keen on him.

But Coleman has assured Accrington supporters that they don’t need to sell their leading players this summer, before claiming their starting price is well over a million.

“We’ve been told by the chairman that we don’t need to sell so everything is in place for us to go forward. Myself and Andy are on the same page and, if we think the best business sense is to sell a player for the good of the club, that’s what we will do and it doesn’t matter who the player is. They are educated decisions, made with the interest of the club whereas in the past we had to sell to survive and that’s not the case anymore. That means you get the market value, the starting price for our top players now is well over a million,” Coleman explained.

Derby were the lowest scorers in the Championship this season.

Colin Kazim-Richards topped the club’s scoring charts with just eight goals, while Martyn Waghorn, Tom Lawrence and Kamil Jozwiak managed just nine between them.

Derby boss Wayne Rooney must strengthen the club’s attacking options this summer.

Waghorn is out of contract, and both Lee Gregory and Patrick Roberts have returned to their parent clubs after joining the Rams on loan during the January transfer window.

Charles, 25, is seemingly ready to step up to Championship level and would be a decent option. However, with finances limited, he may be out of Derby’s reach right now.
