Paul Warne saw his new signing suffer an injury scare in their pre-season clash against Stockport County.

Derby County have given themselves the best possible chance to prepare during pre-season ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

The total of five arrivals this early in the summer window will give Paul Warne the best possible chance to work with his new arrivals and figure out how to play to their strengths.

Multiple signings have come through the doors of Pride Park, notably the arrival of Ben Osborn, who will provide the necessary Premier League and Championship experience that Warne’s side will need ahead of the new season.

Derby County are reportedly set to sign another midfielder, who will likely ‘join the training group on Monday‘.

Warne has been able to ensure that he has sufficient squad depth in the centre of the park, which will be handy following his side’s recent injury issue in pre-season.

Derby County signing Ebou Adams taken off as a ‘precaution’ in pre-season

Derby County finally managed to get the signing of Ebou Adams over the line, with the midfielder joining up with Warne’s side after a brilliant loan spell at the club in the 2023/24 campaign.

However, his second stint at the club started with him just getting 38 minutes of game time before being replaced as a result of a ‘dead leg’, per Dominic Dietrich on X.

The midfielder reportedly was able to walk off, with it being deemed a ‘precautionary’ substitution to take off the Gambian international in place for defensive-midfielder Liam Thompson.

Derby County’s midfield squad depth could save them this season

Despite any injury to Adams following the pre-season fixture against Stockport County seemingly being on the minor side, Warne will be fully prepared in the event of any of his key midfielders potentially suffering a fitness setback this season.

He has ensured that his options are fruitful in the middle, with the likes of Osborn and Adams joining the club, as well as Dutch midfielder Kenzo Goudmijn, who has arrived at Pride Park with plenty of promise ahead of the new campaign.

It will be necessary that Warne bolsters his options in other positions on the field in case of injuries depleting his players, however he has already made it clear that he is looking to strengthen across the pitch, most notably in-between the sticks, with Josh Vickers being the only recognised senior goalkeeper at the squad.

Warne’s side are preparing incredibly well for the Championship and seem to be a team that are prepared for any set-backs they may get along the way.
